Tax disputes in Zaragoza, with representation and support throughout the process
When a tax authority interprets your tax obligations differently from your advisers, or from the reality of your operations, you are facing a tax dispute.
And when money, reputation and legal certainty are at stake, you need more than a quick response: you need a technical team that analyses the case and defends it on legal grounds, without improvising.
At CE Consulting Zaragoza, we help businesses and professionals to defend their rights in assessment, inspection, collection and penalty proceedings. We review your case, identify the points in your favour and prepare the defence with technical judgement and legal backing.
What is considered a tax dispute?
A tax dispute arises when there are discrepancies between what a company or self-employed professional has declared and what the authority considers correct, based on its interpretation of the rules.
These disputes usually stem from:
- Contested valuations of commercial transactions
- Incorrect application (according to the tax authorities) of deductions or tax benefits
- A different classification of an economic transaction
- Changes of criteria or interpretation by the authorities
- Formal errors that the tax authorities consider substantial
- Disagreements over tax residence, economic connection or the taxable base
Our tax advisory team analyses your full file, identifies weak points and prepares the right strategy for lodging the appeal with the competent body.

Frequently asked questions about tax dispute proceedings
What is the difference between a tax dispute and an accounting error?
A tax dispute involves a disagreement over the interpretation or application of tax law.
For example, the authorities may take the view that a deduction does not apply because not all the requirements have been met, according to their interpretation.
An accounting error, by contrast, is a technical mistake (such as duplicating an invoice or applying the wrong tax rate). Both can lead to adjustments, but a tax dispute requires a structured technical defence.
What does a tax lawyer do in a dispute?
They analyse the lawfulness of the administrative action, build the legal argument, coordinate with technical experts (accountants or financial specialists), draft the submissions and represent the taxpayer before the competent bodies, in both administrative and judicial proceedings.
How long does a tax dispute take to resolve?
It will depend on the type of appeal, the competent body and whether there is a backlog at the relevant tribunal. In general, a tax dispute can last between 10 months and two years, although in some cases it can take longer if there is expert evidence or if several similar appeals are joined together.
During that time, a stay of the contested act can be requested, to prevent the penalty or assessment from being enforced while the case is resolved. However, not all cases meet the requirements for this.
That is why it is important to have a team that knows the conditions and prepares the application correctly where it is viable.
What is the difference between a check and an inspection?
A check is usually limited (for example, reviewing a specific invoice or one VAT quarter), whereas an inspection has a wider scope, covers several tax years and allows the tax authorities to review more extensive documentation.
In both cases, it is possible to provide documentation, make submissions and lodge appeals if you disagree with the decision.
What can I do if my assets have already been seized or the penalty has been enforced?
It is still possible to act. In some cases, you can request a review of the act, lodge an appeal if you are still within the deadline, or even request a refund of sums wrongly collected if it is shown that the assessment was incorrect.
The important thing is to review the full file and act as soon as possible.
